Murals of Tinnura ~ With a bit of good fortune my host at the Panoramic Guest House in Alghero recommended a visit to the village of Tinnura. So by infrequent Sunday bus service and a 20 minute walk I arrived at this charming village. Tinnura would not be on the map of tourism for any reason except that it is an incredible place to view murals. It seems painting murals in public places has been a tradition in Sardinia since the 60's and began by reknowned sculptor Pinuccio Sciola. Tinnura might be known as the village of murals. Its main and many side streets have numerous colourful pictures covering the sides and fronts of houses. While I was there I counted more than 50 murals with a wide range of subject matter. Pina Monne, who is the youngest and the only female of a famous group of muralists, lives in Tinnura. Tinnura is hidden gem and was my favorite place while visiting Sardinia, it was also not listed in any of my guide books. [Tripadvisor: A Hidden Gem on Sardinia] None of the murals in Tinnura were titled. So the names I gave them in the following slides are what might be appropriate. |
