Cornwall Coast -- A stupendous walk along the Cornwall Coast. I enjoyed a melody of fine weather and lovely landscape with ... let's call it the other: Fits of rain, a burst of Wizard of Oz wind, a high anxiety cliff hanging path. I walked bits and pieces, 80 miles, of the 630 mile path from the most western locale of England at Land's End to Plymouth including the most southern locale at Lizard Point. Along the way were charming port towns, fine B&Bs, scrumptious local sea food, great cask ales, and yummy Cornish ice cream. Besides this photo album, read the story in my Cornwall Coast Report. If that sparks interest to plan your own journey then you might be interested in my Cornwall Coast GPS Waypoints Report of the path. Left to Right: (1) Lizard Point, (2) Mevagissy Harbour, (3) St. Anthony's Head, (4) Saint Mawes Harbour, (5) Land's End, (6) Black Head, (7) Neptune Sea God. |
Welcome Indeed! -- This photo album follows in the direction from west to east of the Cornwall Coast Path that my friend and I walked from Land's End to Plymouth. |
Walking Map -- My holiday of the Cornwall Coast with a friend was 17 days: Walking 11, relaxing 2 in Penzance before the walk, relaxing 1 midway in Falmouth, and relaxing 2 in Plymouth at completion. We walked an average of 7-1/2 miles a day. The coastal paths we walked are highlighted on the map in red or blue, while those in green we skipped. Our walking itinerary was: (1) Walk Senna Cove to Porthcurno then taxi to Penzance, (2) Walk Penzance to Praa Sands then bus to Porthleven, (3) Walk Porthleven to Mullion, (4) Taxi then walk Kynance Cove to The Lizard, (5) Bus then walk Kuggar to Coverack, (6) Taxi then ferry/walk Helford Passage to Falmouth, (7) Taxi then walk Portscatho to Saint Mawes, (8) Taxi then walk Caerhays Castle to Megavissey, (9) Walk Megavissey to Charlestown, (10) Taxi then walk Par Sands to Fowey, (11) Walk Fowey to Polperro then bus to Looe, and (12) Rail Looe to Plymouth. |

Coastline to Blackhead -- There are other points called Blackhead. This one was tame as compared with the one nearby Land's End. At that one I hoped to relax in its shelter, but as I drew close Wizard of Oz winds so strong buffeted me such that I had to hunker down holding onto my planted walking pole so I wouldn't fly off the nearby cliff. Never made it. Thankfully life won out! |
Neptune Sea God -- New life given to old tree by sculptor Peter Martin in the village of Charlestown. |
Gribbin Head Daymark -- Similar to a lighthouse so ships can identify the head point, but used only during the day, hence no light beacon. |
